If you’re planning a trip from China to Bali, there are a number of entry requirements you must be aware of before you travel.

Do Chinese need a visa for Bali?

Chinese citizens must hold a visa to enter Bali. You can apply for 2 different types with a Chinese passport, the Visa on Arrival (VoA) and the Visit Visa (211A).

Visa on Arrival

The most common option is the Visa on Arrival (VoA), valid for 30 days, with the option to extend it for another 30 days. You can get this visa once you arrive at Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar, or apply for it online before you travel.

The VoA costs approximately US$35.

211A e-Visa

Chinese citizens can apply for other visas such as the 211A e-Visa for extended stays or for purposes other than tourism. Applications for these visas should be made before traveling to Bali.

Documents Required to Travel to Bali from China

Before traveling to Bali from China, you must have the following documents:

  • Chinese passport
  • Return ticket or proof of onward travel
  • Proof of sufficient funds for their stay
  • Completed e-CD Customs Declaration Form
  • Bali Tourist Tax proof of payment
  • Health Pass (SSHP)

You may also be asked to provide proof of accommodation or travel insurance.

Chinese Passport Requirements to Enter Bali

To be granted entry to Bali, your Chinese passport must be valid for at least 6 months after your arrival.

If your passport is nearing its expiry date, you should apply for a passport renewal well in advance of your scheduled departure date. The standard processing period for applications submitted within Mainland China is 10 business days.

For those applying through Chinese embassies or consulates outside of Mainland China (including Hong Kong and Macau), the standard processing time is 15 business days.

You must also have at least one blank page in your passport for the visa stamps.

How to Pay the Bali Tourist Tax from China

All international visitors to Bali are required to pay the Bali Tourist Levy. This mandatory fee supports the conservation of Bali’s natural environment and the preservation of its cultural heritage.

While you can to pay the levy upon arrival, many travelers opt to pay in advance to avoid waiting in line at the airport.

If you choose to pay the Bali Tourist Levy before your trip, you can use a credit or debit card. The process involves filling out a brief online form and receiving a QR code as proof of payment, which you must present upon arrival.

e-CD for Chinese Citizens

All visitors to Indonesia must complete a Customs Declaration Form. This is applicable to all regions of the country, including Bali.

This form can be filled out online before your trip. You’ll have to provide information about items you are bringing into Bali, such as jewelry, medications and electronics.

After approval, a PDF copy of your completed electronic Customs Declaration (e-CD) will be emailed to you. You must present this PDF to customs officers upon arrival in Bali.

All passengers, including those from China, must now complete an official health declaration for Indonesia known as the SSHP.

Traveling to Bali from China

Bali is a popular destination for Chinese citizens, with Indonesia’s Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry aiming to attract 1.5 million Chinese tourists in 2024. Despite its popularity, you might still have some doubts before visiting.

Which airports offer flights to Bali?

You can fly directly to Bali from many of China’s major cities, including:

  • Beijing
  • Shanghai
  • Guangzhou
  • Shenzhen
  • Xiamen

Key Chinese carriers providing direct flights include China Eastern Airlines, Juneyao Airlines, Xiamen Airlines and China Southern Airlines.

Is Bali safe to visit?

Bali is generally a very safe place to visit. However, common travel precautions should be taken. Avoid unlit areas at night, and do not leave your belongings unattended.

Are any vaccines required to visit?

There are currently no vaccines required to visit Bali. However, it's recommended to be up-to-date on routine vaccines. Vaccines for Hepatitis A and Typhoid are advised.

Are there any other health concerns to be aware of?

Dengue fever is a concern, particularly during the rainy season from October to March. You can protect yourself by using mosquito repellent, wearing long sleeves, and staying in accommodation with good mosquito control measures.

It’s also recommended to stick to bottled or filtered water, as tap water can make you sick.

Can I use my Chinese mobile network while in Bali?

While you can use your Chinese mobile network in Bali, roaming charges can be very high. Consider buying a local SIM or an international roaming plan to avoid excessive charges.

Is travel insurance necessary when visiting Bali?

Although it’s not obligatory, it’s highly recommended to have travel insurance when visiting to Bali. Medical treatment can be expensive, and having insurance ensures access to necessary medical care in case of illness or injury.
